Your bettor profile

The Philosopher

You talk more than you bet.

You understand it all. The house margin, expected value, why accumulators are a trap, why Kelly is right. You could give a talk. In fact, you do give that talk, in the group chat, at the bar, in any conversation that allows it. What you hardly ever do is bet. And listen: if this were an addiction problem, you'd be the success story. But the Philosopher has his own trap, more subtle: you confuse knowing with doing. You know the theory so well that you feel you're already on the smart side of the table without having risked anything. You're the coach who never takes the field. There's nothing wrong with watching from the stands, but then stop calling it your sport. Call it what it is: a conversation topic you're very good at.

The number you should know

Knowing how the margin works doesn't reduce it by a single point: the 2.70% of European roulette is the same for the expert and the beginner.

Three concrete tips

  1. 01If you really hardly ever bet, congratulations: you're one of the few the house gets nothing from.
  2. 02Watch out for the jump from knowing a lot about this to being able to bet big: knowledge isn't bankroll.
  3. 03Channel the hobby where it costs no money: analysis, debate, tools. There your edge is real.
